LONDON, April 8, 2017 (SNN 24/7) – The top title contenders Chelsea FC exhibited yet again on Saturday why they are leading the pack in the English Premier League 2017 with a clinical performance against Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium in England.

Earlier in the day, Tottenham Hotspur floored Watford 4-0 to reduce the margin on top of the English Premier League standings and expected the leaders to either lose or play a draw against Bournemouth to gain some grounds on the table.

However, it wasn’t to be. Chelsea FC played like champions and showed no signs of complacency as they thrashed Bournemouth 3-1 to regain their healthy advantage going into the final phase of the season.

A brace from Son Heung-min took the Spurs to only four points behind Chelsea FC, but the leaders never let the imposing pressure ruin their game and achieved the full three points from a weaker opposition like Bournemouth and surged to 75 points.

It all started for Chelsea when Adam Smith scored an own goal. Eden Hazard proved hazardous to the AFC Bournemouth with a goal that doubled the advantage whereas Marcos Alonso put the icing on the cake with a lethal strike. Bournemouth’s only goal was struck by Josh King who delivered his 13th goal this season.

The three teams who are chasing Chelsea FC all recorded victories thereby kept the pressure on the leaders intact. Manchester City, currently fourth, pushed Hull City close to the brink of the relegation zone with a 3-1 triumph as Sergio Aguero found himself among the scorers at the Etihad Stadium.

The third-placed Liverpool FC were bailed out by substitutes Philippe Coutinho and Robert Firmino with late strikes to help them beat Stoke City 2-1 in their backyard.

Apart from the title battle, the battle to skip the relegation has also picked up immensely right at the bottom where West Ham United eased their nerves with a 1-0 victory over Swansea city at London Stadium. The victory ended a five-match losing streak for the West Ham United. Swansea City are also one of the teams facing the relegation fears. The second-from-bottom side Middlesbrough grabbed a precious one point at home with a goalless draw against Burnley. They haven’t won a single game in their last 14 outings.

In another match, Southampton registered a 1-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion.
