KARACHI, April 20 (SNN 24/7) – Sindh thrashed Federal Areas by 44 runs on Duckworth/Lewis Method in an important match of the Pakistan Cup 2017 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi, Pakistan on Thursday evening.
Apart from the heavy downpour, half-centuries by Khurram Manzoor and Asif Zakir played a crucial role in the victory which gave Sindh their first victory in the Pakistan Cup 2017.
Balochistan top the points table with two victories, followed by Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Federal Areas at the second, third, and fourth positions. Punjab is the only side in the event which is yet to taste the victory.
Federal Areas skipper Imad Wasim won the toss and decided to set a total to a batting-heavy Sindh.
Sami Aslam (7 off 14 – 1 four) and Abid Ali (2 off 18) failed miserably to give a handsome start to the innings. Mohammad Hafeez (23 off 41 – 1 six) also couldn’t last long as the Federal Areas looked in trouble at 3/76 in the 20th over.
Haris Sohail not only occupied one end but also ensured to make the run-rate ticking forward. During his 117-run knock from 116 deliveries, Haris Sohail smashed 10 boundaries and four sixes. The knock by the left-hander held the innings together and despite losing Hussain Talat (26 off 38 – 1 four), Imad Wasim (17 off 20 – 2 fours), and Zohaib Ahmed (19 off 19 – 2 fours), Federal Areas looked like losing the plot of posting a huge first innings total.
A late burst by Sohail Khan (28* off 20 – 3 fours, 1 six) and Hasan Khan (29* off 15 – 3 fours, 2 sixes) helped the Federal Areas to 7/284 from their 50 overs.
Mir Hamza (10-0-53-2), Umar Gul (10-1-62-2), and Anwar Ali (9-0-51-2) bagged two wickets each whereas Mohammad Nawaz (10-0-42-1) also bagged a scalp.
Sindh got off to a blistering start as Khurram Manzoor took the attack to the Federal Areas bowlers. The right-hander smacked six boundaries and two maximums during his 51-run knock from just 30 balls at a strike rate of 170.00. The innings proved just what the doctor would have ordered for Sindh as they coasted at a healthy rate.
Khurram Manzoor’s opening partner Asif Zakir (54* off 67 – 6 fours) and Akbar-ur-Rehman (43* off 61 – 4 fours) continued the good work after the dismissal of the mercurial opening batsman.
When Sindh scored 1/157 from 26.2 overs, it started pouring down that halted the proceedings at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. After a long wait, the match officials started to go for the Duckworth/Lewis Method which required Sindh to be at 113 runs from 26.2 overs. Hence, Sindh won their first match in the competition by 44 runs.
Haris Sohail of Federal Areas was declared Man of the Match for his manful century which resurrected his side from a complete meltdown.
