Usman Khawaja, Pat Cummins stun India as Australia win ODI series

KARACHI, March 13, 2019 ( – The career best series performances by stylish Pakistan-born left-handed batsman Usman Khawaja and right arm fast bowling sensation Pat Cummins helped Australia to win their first ODI series on the Indian soil in a decade.

Usman Khawaja, who smashed brilliant 383 runs in five-match ODI series with two hundred and two fifties led the Australian come back and his match winning hundred in decider earned him well deserved Man of the Match as well as Man of the series award.

The toss of 25th one day international at Feroz Shah Kotla, Delhi won by Aussie skipper Aaron Finch and decided to bat first. The Aussie opening pair Usman Khawaja (100) and skipper Aaron Finch (27) continued to put up their good show as Finch become ninth Australian batsmen to complete 1000 ODI runs against India. Peter Handscomb (52) also finished the series with another important contribution in the middle.

Maxwell (1) and Stoinis (20) poor run with the bat in one day internationals continued in the final ODI as well and allowed India to make a come back in the match. Australia managed to score 272/9 in their 50 overs thanks to some important contributions by bowlers Pat Cummins (15) and Richardson (29).

Australia came from behind to win the India ODI series.

India lost Shikhar Dhawan (12) early to Pat Cummins who finished the five-match series with career best 14 wickets at average of 15.71 with economy of just 4.64 in high scoring matches. Marcus Stoinis took important scalp of Indian skipper Virat Kohli for just 20. India continued to lose wickets to Australian spinner duos Nathan Lyon and Adam Zampa. 

Zampa took three important wickets for just 46 runs as Indians never look in the hunt. India were bowled out in the final ball of the series for 237 and lost the match & series by 35 runs. Usman Khawaja was named man of the match & man of the series for his brilliant performance.

There is plenty of positives for the struggling Aussies from this series as they just concluded successful ODI & T20 series wins and both by coming from behind just before world cup.

The pumped-up team of Australia will now take on new look young Pakistan team in five-match ODI series to be played in UAE next week.
