KARACHI, September 30, 2019 (SNN247.com) – Sri Lankan skipper Lahiru Thirimanne has won the toss in the final ODI and decided to bat first at National Stadium Karachi.
Abdi Ali makes the most of the opportunity with his brilliant 74 off 67 balls as Pakistan beat Sri Lanka by 5 wickets in the third & final one day international at National Stadium Karachi today.
This was the first ODI series played in Pakistan in 10 years after Sri Lankan cricket team were attacked in Lahore in 2009 while on their way to Stadium. Pakistani openers Abid Ali & Fakhar Zaman (76 off 91 balls) put 123 for the first wicket chasing 298 in 50 overs.
Babar Azam (31 off 26) and Sarfraz Ahmed (23 off 33) failed to capitalize on the start. Haris Sohail (56 off50) was again impressive as he anchored the chase. Iftikhar (28* off 22) was again impressive as he finished off the match with six and a boundary in penultimate over. Abid Ali was named man of the match for his brilliant inning. Babar Azam was declared Man of the Series.
Earlier, Sri Lankan skipper Lahiru Thirimanne won the toss and elected to bat first. Gunathilaka (133 off 134) scored a magnificent hundred and he was ably supported by skipper Thirimanne (36 off 53) and Bhanuka (36 off 39). Shanaka used the long handle in death overs as he punished Wahab Riaz and scored 43 off 24.
Sri Lanka scored 297/9 in their allotted 50 overs. Wahab Riaz went for 81 in his 10 overs. Mohammad Amir was pick of the bowlers with three wickets for 51 runs in 10 overs. The crowd at National Stadium was again disappointed as most of the stands remained empty.
The teams will now travel to Lahore to play T20I series. The first T20I will be played on October 5, 2019.
