KARACHI, October 2, 2019 (SNN247.com) – U.S. Open champion Bianca Andreescu of Canada and Jennifer Brady of the United States muscled their way into the last-16 round of the China Open tennis tournament in Beijing, China on Wednesday.
The North American players entered the pre-quarter-finals in contrasting fashion as Andreescu faced little resistance whereas Brady had to bring her A-game after losing the first set.
Jennifer Brady came from behind to defeat her compatriot Madison Keys by 2-6 6-4 6-4 in a three-set thrilling match. On the other hand, Bianca Andreescu sailed into the third round with a straight-sets victory by 6-3 7-6 over Elise Mertens of Belgium in the last-32 round match.
In the other last-16 round matches to be played on Wednesday, Australia’s Ashleigh Barty was set to take on China’s Zheng Saisai, Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic was due to face off against Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic, Slovenia’s Polona Hercog was due to play Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands, whereas Ukraine’s Elina Svitolina was set to play Sofia Kenin of the United States.
