Six Bulgarian supporters arrested in an ugly racism incident

KARACHI, October 16, 2019 ( – The Bulgarian police have arrested six Bulgarian football supporters who were involved in ugly racism incident in the Monday night clash of UEFA Euro 2020 qualifiers against England.

The Bulgaria hosted England at Vasil Levski National Stadium, Sofia on Monday night where Bulgarian football supporters racially abused English football players. Three English players including Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Tyrone Mings were abused during England visit to Sofia.

England won the encounter convincingly by 6-0 and currently leading the points table of Group A with 15 points in six matches. England have won five and lost to Czech Republic by 2-1 after taking 1-0 lead. Bulgaria is currently at bottom of the table with only 3 points in 7 matches. Bulgaria yet to register a victory in the UEFA EURO 2020 qualifiers while they have lost 4 and drew three matches.

Bulgarian coach Krasimir Balakov has apologized to the England soccer team over the ugly incident. “I condemn unconditionally all forms of racism as unacceptable behavior that contradicts normal human relationships. I think that this form of prejudice should be buried deep in our past, and nobody should ever be subjected,” Krasimir said in his statement on facebook.  

“I trained many Bulgarian teams with players of different backgrounds and never judged anyone about the colour of their skin. In addition, I have always actively participated in all initiatives involving unprivileged people or the needy,” Krasimir added.

Bulgarian Police have identified 15 suspects who were involved in the incident.
