SYDNEY, November 5, 2019 (SNN247.com) – Steven Smith (80* from 51 balls – 11 4’s & a six) continued his dream run in international cricket as he single-handedly took Australia to comfortable win over Pakistan in the second T20I played here today at Manuka Oval, Canberra.
After early departure of skipper Aaron Finch (17 off 14) and David Warner (20 off 11 balls), Smith added 56 runs with McDermott (21 from 22) in just 43 balls before giving the finishing touches with unbeaten Partnership with Turner (8* from 15 balls).
It was ill disciplined bowling and poor fielding performances by Pakistan cricket team. It was a shocker team selection by Pakistan team management as they didn’t make a single change in the team which played in 1st T20I. There were big question marks on selection of continued failing Fakhar Zaman & Asif Ali and also Haris Sohail inability to play short balls on decent tracks.
Earlier Pakistan skipper Babar Azam won the toss and elected to bat first. Babar (50 off 38 balls) again showed his class with the bat but he looked absolutely furious on stupid short selections by fellow batsmen like Haris Sohail and Asif Ali. Babar Azam was run out brilliantly by David Warner with direct throw when he was tried to complete second run while completing his fifty as well.
Iftikhar Ahmed (62* from 34) was the hero for Pakistan as he again yet to dismiss in white ball international matches this season for Pakistan. Iftikhar played a brilliant knock of 62* with five boundaries and three sixes helped Pakistan to reach 150. Apart from Babar and Iftikhar, no other player showed any commitment or cricketing mind to build a game.
Fakhar (2 from 7), Haris (6 from 9) and Asif Ali (4 from 5) added 12 runs from 21 balls collectively in a format which required more than 130 strike rate these days. Iftikhar showed how to build innings as he initially scored just 9 from 14 balls before reaching his fifty in just 29 balls.
Richardson got the most hammering from Iftikhar as he scored fifty with the ball (51/1 in 4 overs). Ashton Agar was pick of the Aussie bowlers as the took 2/23 in four overs while Cummins took 1/19 in his four overs.
Pakistan bowlers Wahab (33/0 in 3 overs) & Amir (32/1 in 3.3 overs) as both quit red ball cricket were seen clueless in white balls as well. Wahab still having no ball problem which hard to understand why he is carrying this in international cricket.
In a tough competition of modern day cricket where bowler like Ishant Sharma who is pick of the bowler for India these days, is even not sure about his place in the team if he failed to a wicket in one inning, Pakistan team management is consistent with tried and tested bowlers who are still not ready to give up bad habits of bowling no-balls or leaking runs at crucial stage.
After batsmen, Babar looked clueless with the performances of his senior star bowlers while Shadab made a good comeback and Irfan & Imad also had decent outing with the ball.
Steven Smith was declared Man of the Match. The third and final T20I will be played on November 8 at Perth.
