KARACHI, November 14, 2019 (SNN247.com) – Saudi Arabia survived Uzbekistan scare as late goals from Salman Al-Faraj and Salem Al-Dawsari helped them to beat Uzbekistan by 3-2 in an important Group D second round match today played at Pakhtakor Stadium in Tashkent.
Eldor Shomurdov scored the opening goal of the in the 16th minute for Uzbekistan which was equalized by Salman Al-Faraj in the 23rd minute through penalty. The score remained 1-1 at half time.
Otabek Shukurov put home team ahead in the 56th minute of the match through penalty. The score remained 2-1 in favor of home team till 85th minute when Salman Al-Faraj scored his second goal of the match.
Salem Al-Dawsari scored the decisive goal in the 90th minute of the match to stun the Pakhtakor stadium. Uzbekistan failed to score the equalizer in the five minutes injury time as Saudi Arabia grabbed the top spot in Group D second round.
In other matches played today, Philippines beat home team Maldives by 2-1.
Myanmar defeated Tajikistan by 4-3. North Korea suffered defeat against home team Turkmenistan by 3-1 while Japan won against visitor Kyrghizstan by 2-0.
India again had a bad day as they drew against Afghanistan as they narrow avoided defeat by scoring equalizer in the in the 93rd minute of the injury time thanks to goal from Seminlen Doungel. India also had narrowly avoided defeat against Bangladesh last month in Kolkata when Khan scored the equalizer to save them from embarrassment.
Iraq defeat arch rival Iran in high voltage game by 2-1 thanks to injury time decisive goal by Alaa Abbas. Iraq is leading the points table of Group C second round followed by Bahrain and Iran.
United Arab Emirates suffered huge loss to their world cup 2022 chances as they lost to Vietnam by 1-0. UAE is currently at third place in Group G second round while Vietnam is at the top spot followed by Thailand.
