Pollard starts T20I captaincy debut with win over Afghanistan

LUCKNOW, November 14, 2019 (SNN247.com) – Kieron Pollard started off his T20I captaincy debut with comprehensive win over Afghanistan by 30 runs played at Lucknow India today.

Afghanistan skipper Rashied Khan won the toss and elected to field first. Mujeeb strike in the first over with wicket of Brandon King. Evein Lewis (68 off 41) and Shimron Hetmyer (21 off 21) added 87 runs for the second wicket.

Dinesh Ramdin scored only 20 from 19 balls. Skipper Kieron Pollard provided the late impetus with brilliant 32* from 22 balls. West Indies scored 164/5 in 20 overs. Gulbadin Naib took 2/24 in his four overs while Mujeeb, Rashid and Naveen took one wicket each for 27, 34, 39 respectively.

In chasing 165, Afghanistan lost Gurbaz in the first over on golden duck. Ibrahim Zardan lost his wicket to Cottrell in the third over. Hazratullah Zazai (23 off 29) and Asghar Afghan (25 off 21) added 48 runs for third wicket. Najibullah Zadran scored important 27 off 22 balls while Fareed Ahmed also scored 24* off 15 balls but Afghanistan only managed to score 134/9 in their 20 overs.

Kesrick Williams took 3/17 in his four overs while skipper Kieron Pollard and Hayden Walsh took two wickets each for 17 and 34 runs respectively. Kieron Pollard was declared Man of the Match on his T20I Captaincy debut.
