BAY OVAL, November 23, 2019 (SNN247.com) – The hosts New Zealand took control of the first test on Day 3 thanks to fighting unbeaten century by wicket keeper batsman BJ Watling (119* off 298) and excellent half century by all-rounder Colin de Grandhomme (65 off 108) as England trailed by 41 runs in the first inning on debut test at Bay Oval.
New Zealand started the day 3 from 144/4 and lost Nicholls (41 off 125) at 197. Watling and Colin added 119 runs for the sixth wicket before Stokes removed Grandhomme at 316 which was also the last wicket of the day.
Santner (31* off 103) joined Watling and pair finished the day at 394/6 with host leading by 41 runs with two days to go. Ben Stokes was pick of the England bowlers with 2/37 while Sam Curran took 2/74 while Leach and Joe Root took one wicket each.
