DOHA, November 26, 2019 (SNN247.com) – The 24th Arabian Gulf Cup kicked off on 26th November with nail-biter Group A match between host Qatar and Iraq as visitor won the match by 2-1 played at Khalifa International Stadium, Doha.
Mohammad Qasem was the star performer for Iraq as he scored both goals for the team. Qasem scored the opening goal of the match in the 18th minute and doubled the lead in the 27th minute as Iraq finished the first half with 2-0.
Qatar cameback strongly in the second half and managed to pull one back thanks to goal from Abdulaziz Hatem in the 49th minute of the match. Iraq did well in restricting Qatar to score equalize as they denied them for good over 40 minutes to level the match.
In second match of Group A, United Arab Emirates will take on Yemen. In Group matches, defending champion Oman will meet Bahrain in the first match on November 27 while Saudi Arabia will face Kuwait.
It is important to mention here that giving the tensions among gulf countries, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Bahrain denied to play Gulf Cup in Doha and announced to boycott the tournament but on November 12, these countries decided to take part in the 24th Arabian Gulf Cup.
