This was the third defeat for Liverpool FC in their last four matches in all soccer competitions, which has signaled a sudden slump in their form after enjoying sheer authority all season long.
The English Premier League giants also tasted defeat in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League tie of last-16 round to Atletico Madrid recently.
However, Chelsea FC inflicted more misery to the already-hurt Liverpool FC with a 2-0 victory, which ensured their qualification into the last-eight round of the FA Cup 2020.
Prior to this sudden slump, Liverpool had enjoyed a phenomenal 44-match unbeaten streak in the English Premier League. They first lost to Watford by 3-0 on Saturday before losing again at Stamford Bridge.
It all started in the 13th minute when Willian scored the first goal for the Blues. Willian’s shot had enough power to beat keeper Adrian to give Chelsea FC an early advantage in the high-profile match.
Ross Barkley doubled the advantage in the 64th minute as Liverpool FC continued to find a way to find the net, but all their efforts went in vain.
Juergen Klopp continued making substitutions right to the end to make sure he had his best men in the field. However, despite the rich experience, Liverpool FC were not able to break the shackles.
The victory for Chelsea FC couldn’t become a reality sans keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who joined the side for the first time since January. His triple-save just at the stroke of half-time literally saved the day for his side that is looking to win the FA Cup title for the ninth time.
Interestingly, Chelsea FC went on to lift the FA Cup two times when they defeated Liverpool FC on their way to the final.
Frank Lampard, Chelsea FC Manager, told a questioner, “They are the best team in the land, this year what they are doing in the league is incredible. So for us to put in the effort, focus, determination, and quality was something special tonight. It’s a one-off I know, but you have to celebrate these moments.”
Juergen Klopp summed up his team’s dismal performance when he said, “We deserved to lose because they scored twice and we made massive mistakes for both goals. Nobody has to feel sorry for us, we will win football games and that is what we want to do on Saturday.”
