Peshawar Zalmi beat Islamabad United in a rain-affected match on D/L

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan, March 7, 2020 (SNN247.com) – Rain spoiled the party as Peshawar Zalmi won the all-important encounter against Islamabad United by 7 runs on D/L method played at packed Pindi Cricket Stadium.

Peshawar Zalmi skipper Wahab Riaz won the toss and elected to field first in important match of Pakistan Super League 2020. This was the second consecutive win of Wahab Riaz as a skipper of Peshawar Zalmi. Islamabad United their star opener Luke Ronchi (6 off 5) early while young all-rounder Rizwan Hussain also failed to capitalize on the opportunity as United were struggling 41/2.

Shadab on Fire

Skipper Shadab Khan again led from the front with his brilliant counter-attack as he added 67 runs for the third wicket with opener Colin Munro (52 off 35). Colin Ingram (41 off 25) added 76 runs for the fourth wicket with Shadab Khan (77 off 42) as Islamabad United managed to score 195/5 in their 20 overs. Shadab Khan was fantastic with his power-hitting as he hit four sixes and five boundaries.

Hasan Ali took two wickets for 36 runs in his four overs while Brathwaite, Wahab Riaz, and Rahat Ali took one wicket each for 1/22, 1/37 and 1/41 respectively.

Zalmi started the chase well

Imam-ul-Haq failed again as he only managed to score 7 from 9 balls. Kamran Akmal was again impressive with his power-hitting as he scored 37 from 21 balls before losing his wicket to young Zafar Gohar. Peshawar Zalmi was on course to chase 196 as they were 85/2 in 9 overs with young Haider Ali was again impressive with his 16* from 8 balls while Tom Banton was   20* from 16 balls. As per the D/L method, Zalmi were needed to be at 78/2 after 9 overs.

Shadab Khan was declared Man of the Match for his brilliant explosive inning. It is pertinent to mention here that both teams’ fielding was very poor especially at least 8-10 catches were dropped during the match.

On Sunday, Islamabad United will host Multan Sultans at Pindi Cricket stadium while Lahore Qalanadars will host Karachi Kings at Qaddafi Stadium Lahore.
