RAWALPINDI, Pakistan, March 8, 2020 (SNN247.com) – Multan Sultans continued to put the impressive show in Pakistan Super League 2020 as they thrashed Islamabad United by nine wickets to become the first team to qualify for the knock out stage.
In a rain-affected match at Pindi Cricket Stadium, Multan Sultans skipper Shan Masood won the toss and elected to bat first. The late start due to wet outfield forced the Nine-Overs match. Junaid Khan got the first game for Multan Sultans in PSLV as he replaced Muhammad Irfan. Ammad Butt also made a comeback in Islamabad United playing eleven.
Imran Tahir led Multan Sultans counterattack
Islamabad United started well as openers put 26 in just 2.4 overs. Ronchi scored 18 off 10. Munro (25 off 12) and Shadab (14 off 12) added 31 runs for the second wicket before Imran Tahir halted United progress with his brilliant spell. Tahir 2/13 bowled beautifully and laid the foundation of Islamabad United middle-order collapse.
Islamabad United only managed to score 91/7 in their nine overs. Junaid Khan also took two wickets for 17 runs in his two overs Moeen Ali took one wicket for nine runs.
James Vince Punish United
Chasing 92 runs in 9 overs was never a problem as James Vince blasted United bowlers all over the park. With his magnificent 61* off just 24 balls with 11 boundaries and a six earned him a well-deserving Man of the Match award. Multan Sultans chased the target in just 6.4 overs for the loss of Zeeshan Ashraf (16 off 12).
Multan Sultans now become the first team to qualify for the knock out stage of Pakistan Super League 2020. In the second match today, Lahore Qalandars will face Karachi Kings at Qaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Both teams need to win the match to keep their chances high to qualify for the PSLV knockout. Islamabad United have made it very difficult for them as they only managed to win three out of nine matches and only one match to play of league stage.
