Younis Khan to coach Pakistan cricket team for England tour

LAHORE, PAKISTAN June 9, 2020 ( – Pakistan Cricket Board has appointed the legendary Pakistan batsman Younis Khan as batting coach for cricket team upcoming tour of England.

Younis Khan is considered as the most successful and reputable Pakistan cricketer in the cricketing circles and has a very good batting record in English. The legend retired in 2017 from international cricket after a memorable first-ever test series win in West Indies which was also the last test series of former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq.

Both Younis and Misbah are believed to be very good friends and have an excellent working relationship during their cricket playing days.

Misbah-ul-Haq is now a chief selector and coach of the Pakistan cricket team. Younis and Misbah had a very memorable last tour of England in 2016 which was also remembered for a unique match-winning celebration at the Lord’s cricket ground where the team paid tribute to Pakistan Army for improving their fitness and stamina.

Younis scored 10099 runs in test cricket for Pakistan with 34 centuries and 33 fifties. Younis scored a double hundred in the last test inning he played in England. He played a crucial role in Pakistan victory and leveling the series 2-2.

PCB also announced former leg spinner Mushtaq Ahmed, as spin bowling coach and mentor for the England tour. Mushtaq also served England cricket team in the past as spin bowling consultant when Andy Flower turned around team England’s performance. He was also part of West Indies team management during the cricket world cup 2019.


Announcing the decision, PCB CEO Wasim Khan said, “I am delighted that someone of the stature and incredible batting record of Younis Khan has agreed to join the Pakistan cricket set-up for this important tour.

It is crucial that the side understands the conditions that they will encounter in the upcoming series & so having the experience of the likes of Younis and Mushtaq to compliment Head Coach Misbah-ul-Haq & fast bowling coach Waqar Younis will be invaluable”

Pakistan will leave for England tour in July and will play three test matches and three T20Is in August. This will be the second international cricket series after the COVID-19 pandemic halted the sports activities worldwide.

West Indies cricket team is also touring England in June and will play three test matches in July. The schedule for the West Indies tour of England is already announced subject to the approval of the British government.
