Pakistan announce 29-member squad for historic England tour

LAHORE, PAKISTAN June 9, 2020 ( – Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced a 29-member squad for the historical tour of England for three test matches and three T20Is in August – September 2020.

The team will leave for England in the first or second week of July and will quarantine as per the guidelines provided by International Cricket Council. This will be the Pakistan cricket team’s first international cricket commitment after COVID-19 pandemic which will be played under strict guidelines and in empty stadiums.

England cricket team is also hosting West Indies for three cricket matches in July this year.

Amir and Haris to miss Tour of England

Earlier, medium-fast bowler Mohammad Amir and middle-order batsman Haris Sohail refused to tour England. Mohammad Amir showed his unavailability due to the birth of his second child. Haris Sohail refused to tour citing his family reason but it is learnt that COVID-19 pandemic is the main reason behind his non-availability.

In a pleasant surprise, PCB has included young sensation hard-hitting batsman Haider Ali in the squad who performed well for Peshawar Zalmi in the last incomplete edition of Pakistan Super League.

Followings are the players selected for Pakistan tour of England 2020:

Azhar Ali, Babar Azam, Abid Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Imam-ul-Haq, Shan Masood, Asad Shafiq, Fawad Alam, Haider Ali, Iftikhar Ahmad, Khushdil Shah, Mohammad Hafeez, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Rizwan, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Faheem Ashraf, Haris Rauf, Imran Khan, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Hasnain, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Afridi, Sohail Khan, Usman Shinwari, Wahab Riaz, Imad Wasim, Kashif Bhatti, Shadab Khan, Yasir Shah

PCB will also send star-studded management and support team for the upcoming England tour which includes Chief Selector and Coach Misbah-ul-Haq, Batting Coach Younis Khan, Bowling Coach Waqar Younus and Spin Bowling Coach Mushtaq Ahmed.

Interestingly, most of the players had personality clash while working in the past especially when Waqar Younus was head coach. It will be a long tour and will be interesting to see how the young Pakistani team will perform in tough English conditions.

The Pakistan captains in both format Azhar Ali in test and Babar Azam in T20Is have earned great respect in England when they last played county season and enjoy great fan following.
