Bayern Munich consolidate top position in Bundesliga with weekend victory

BERLIN, Germany, June 13, 2020 (SNN247.com) – Bayern Munich continued to strengthen its top position in Bundesliga 2019-20 season as they beat Monchengladbach by 2-1 on Saturday night.

Bayern Munich now enjoying top slot with 73 points in 31 matches followed by Dortmund with 66 points in 31 matches. Joshua Zirkzee scored the opening goal for Bayern Munich in the 26th minute of the match. Monchengladbach found the equalizer in the 37th minute of the match thanks to the generosity of the Bayern’s player Benjamin Pavard who scored the own goal.

Bayern found the late winning goal as Leon Goretzka scored the decisive goal in the 86th minute of the match to give home team deserving victory.

Opportunity for Leverkusen

With defeat against Bayern, Leverkusen has now the golden opportunity to beat Monchengladbach in the points table. Both clubs are now at 56 points each but Monchengladbach played 31 matches while Leverkusen played 30 matches. Leverkusen will face Schalke on Sunday evening. Schalke is currently at number 11 in the points table with 38 points in 30 matches.

In other matches, Dortmund registered away victory over Dusseldorf thanks to a solitary goal by Erling Braut Haland in the injury time, 96th minute of the match.

RB Leipzig also registered an important victory over Hoffenheim on Friday night with 2-0 and strengthened its number 3 place in the points table.

Hertha lost the important encounter on Saturday evening against Eintracht Frankfurt as visitors defeated the home team by thumping a margin of 4-1.

Hertha is now at 10th spot with 38 points in 31 matches while Eintracht Frankfurt is now at 9th place with the same points and matches but better goal difference.

In another Sunday encounter, Augsburg will face host Mainz as both teams are at 14th and 15th place respectively.
